The French twam is a universal favorite in Euro 2016. It played against injury hit Germany in the semifinals. Despite not having major players in its team, Germany remained unfazed by injuries. There was a string of youngsters willing to step up, said Oliver Bierhoff, the team manager on Tuesday. Sami Khedira and Mario Gomez, the two injured strikers will be away from matches for a while now.

Central defender Mats Hummels will also be missing because of suspension. The team captain Bastian Schweinsteiger (it is very difficult to write or pronounce his name) is also doubtful for the match. Earlier in the tournament, his knee ligament tore off. He is working hard to nurse back his wounds so that he can play for his country. Bierhoff said that the depth of Germany’s squad would compensate for all the missing players.

Earlier, the young blood in German team did a great job against rival team in this tournament itself. So we can expect them to give a tough fight to team France as well. Maybe the luck favors them! “I think French team is a little favorites in this game.”, Bierhoff said in a news conference. “They have refilled their confidence with win over Iceland. They have grown together and stronger as a team. They also do not have one twenty minutes in their bones like we have from quarter finals with Italy. So I basically think they are favorites because they have a great advantage of playing this series in their home land. They are also a bit fresher”.

France against Iceland and Germany

France easily went past Iceland with a 5-2 while Germany had needed some bonus time and then penalties to edge past Italy in the previous match. Khedira, Schweinsteiger and Gomez were all injured in the match against Italy and Hummels was booked with a second yellow card in the tournament to earn one major big game suspension. “We have some serious injuries but despite that we do not have a reduced squad. We have mates who are willing to go to the battle field. Hence we are confident. We can count on these players who are clearly prepaired and have proved their mantle earlier as well. There is no doubt on their quality.”

Several German youngsters including the 22 year old Julian Draxier and Joshua Kimmich stepped up and converted their penalties against Italy when usual apogees like Schweinsteiger, Mueller and Ozil failed to prove their prowess. Draxier scored one goal and set up against another in their round of simple 16 wins over Slovakia. Kimmich and Hector have shown remarkable consistency as left back. (Being a left back is not an easy task).

The young players have quality

“The young players have proved that they have quality, not only the skills but also the mental attitude to be there at such a crucial moment.”, said Bierhoff. Emre Can is most likely to replace Khedira in hold mid field position with the 20 year old Julian who is another mid fielder option for coach Loew. “We have gradually improved during the tournament. I am very much convinced we can compensate for the major absences.”, said Bierhoff in an interview with media people. It is good to see him full of such a confidence in this adverse situation. It will be for the first time when four major players will be missingĀ  on the ground in such a crucial situation. The chances of Germany’s victory are lean but we can just hope the best for them. Maybe they emerge victorious! Let us keep our fingers crossed (until and unless you are supporting Italy).
